“The Resurrection Prophecy” Part 2 (1 Corinthians 15)
BI: God so loved His human Creation that He sent His only Son to die on the Cross bearing our sin, and leading us to freedom in His resurrection!
HE IS RISEN! The Resurrection is the greatest news for every living soul because its reality promises forgiveness and freedom and truth-filled faith for every person who believes and embraces the Resurrected Savior and Lord!
The traditional holiday term ‘Easter’ is a misnomer because the word itself has nothing to do with Resurrection Prophecy or fulfillment.
Yet our faith stnd s strong and firm on the promises of the Feasts given by the Lord to the people of Israel thousands of years ago. The first Resurrection Sunday historically and Biblically landed on the Feast Of The Firstfruits which itself is part of the Passover Feast marking the miraculous liberation of Israel from slavery in Egypt. In prophetic fulfillment Jesus was crucified as the Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world and liberates all sinners who turn from our sin and toward our Savior.
This Passover we marked just 8 days ago when Justin Kron led us through our annual Sedar observance. Plan to join us each year for this remembrance.
Last week with anticipation, we stepped into the historically prophetic calendar events—known as Holy Week–brimming with prophetic history. How have things progressed in the last seven days for you?
🌿 Palm Sunday (Triumphal Entry)
- Jesus enters Jerusalem through the Eastern Gate riding a donkey fulfilling Zechariah 9:9 – “Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion! Shout aloud, O daughter of Jerusalem! Behold, your king is coming to you; righteous and having salvation is he, humble and mounted on a donkey, on a colt, the foal of a donkey”
- Crowds welcome Him, waving palm branches and shouting “Hosanna!”
- He weeps over Jerusalem (Luke 19:41–44).
🌿 Zealous Monday (‘Holy Monday’; Cleansing of the Temple)
- Jesus curses a barren fig tree (symbol of spiritual fruitlessness).
- He drives out money changers and merchants from the temple.
“15[Jesus] entered the temple and began to drive out those who sold and those who bought in the temple, and He overturned the tables of the money-changers and the seats of those who sold pigeons. 16And He would not allow anyone to carry anything through the temple. 17And He was saying to them, “It is written, ‘My house shall be called a house of prayer for all the nations’. But you have made it a den of robbers!” (Mark 11:15-17)
🌿 Teaching Tuesday (‘Holy Tuesday’)
- The fig tree is found withered.
- Jesus teaches extensively in the temple.
- Religious leaders challenge Him (authority, taxes, resurrection).
- Gives major teachings and parables:
- Parable of the tenants
- The greatest commandment –
“A lawyer, asked him a question to test him. 36 “Teacher, which is the great commandment in the Law?” 37 And he said to him, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. 38 This is the great and first commandment. 39 And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself. 40 On these two commandments depend all the Law and the Prophets.” (Matthew 22:35-40)
- Delivers the Olivet Discourse (Mt 24–25) on the end times.
🌿 Wiley Wednesday (‘Holy Wednesday’)
- Crucifixion Prophecy: “Jesus said to his disciples, 2 ‘After two days the Passover is coming, and the Son of Man will be delivered up to be crucified.’ 3 Then the chief priests and the elders of the people gathered in the palace of the high priest, whose name was Caiaphas, 4 and plotted together in order to arrest Jesus by stealth and kill Him.” (Matthew 26:1-4)
- Judas agrees to betray Jesus for 30 pieces of silver.
🌿 Communion Thursday (Maundy Thursday; Last Supper)
- Jesus celebrates Passover with His disciples.
- Institutes the Lord’s Supper (Communion): Bread = His body; Wine = His blood.
26 Now as they were eating, Jesus took bread, and after blessing it broke it and gave it to the disciples, and said, “Take, eat; this is my body.” 27 And he took a cup, and when he had given thanks he gave it to them, saying, “Drink of it, all of you, 28 for this is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins. 29 I tell you I will not drink again of this fruit of the vine until that day when I drink it new with you in my Father’s kingdom.” (Matthew 26:26-29)
- Washes the disciples’ feet (model of humility). ‘Maundy’ references His command to love others as we love ourselves; Jesus washing the feet of disciples.
- Gives the “new commandment” to love one another.
- Prays in the Garden of Gethsemane in deep anguish.
- Is betrayed by Judas with a kiss and arrested.
🌿 Good Friday (Good Friday / Crucifixion)
- Jesus is tried before Jewish leaders and Pontius Pilate.
- He is mocked, beaten, and sentenced to death.
- Crucified around 9 AM.
- Darkness covers the land from noon to 3 PM.
- Jesus dies around 3 PM, saying, “It is finished.”
- The temple veil is torn in two.
- He is buried in a tomb before sunset.
45From the sixth hour there was darkness over all the land until the ninth hour. 46 About the ninth hour Jesus cried out with a loud voice, saying, ‘Eli, Eli, lema sabachthani?’ that is, ‘My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?’ 47 And some of the bystanders, hearing it, said, “This man is calling Elijah.” 48 And one of them at once ran and took a sponge, filled it with sour wine, and put it on a reed and gave it to him to drink. 49 But the others said, “Wait, let us see whether Elijah will come to save him.” 50 And Jesus cried out again with a loud voice and yielded up his spirit.” (Matthew 27:45-50)
🌿 Holy Saturday (Silent Saturday)
- Jesus’ body rests in the tomb.
- Guards are placed at the tomb.
62 The next day, that is, after the day of Preparation, the chief priests and the Pharisees gathered before Pilate 63 and said, “Sir, we remember how that impostor said, while he was still alive, ‘After three days I will rise.’ 64 Therefore order the tomb to be made secure until the third day, lest his disciples go and steal him away and tell the people, ‘He has risen from the dead,’ and the last fraud will be worse than the first.” 65 Pilate said to them, “You have a guard of soldiers. Go, make it as secure as you can.” 66 So they went and made the tomb secure by sealing the stone and setting a guard.” (Matthew 27:62-66)
- Disciples mourn and hide.
- Jesus’ experiences separation from the Father!
- Harrowing of Hell.
🌿Resurrection Sunday
- Victory over sin and death is proclaimed.
“I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received: that Christ died for our sins in accordance with the Scriptures, 4 that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures. . . ‘Death is swallowed up in victory.’ 55 ‘O death, where is your victory? O death, where is your sting?’ 56 The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law. 57 But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.
J. Warner Wallace – As a successful cold case detective, J. Warner Wallace became so well-known for solving decades-old murders that he ended up as the foremost expert on national TV true crime shows. But as an atheist, he decided to turn his superior detective skills on disproving the Resurrection of Jesus Christ…or even proving it if the evidence should somehow take him there. What he discovered changed his life for all eternity! After all his research, Wallace concluded the resurrection was not a conspiracy, because detectives know those often fall apart when there are too many conspirators and the people involved face real threats if they don’t recant. “We don’t have a single, ancient record of any of the disciples ever recanting, when that was often the goal of the people who were persecuting Christians.”
58 Therefore, my beloved brothers, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that in the Lord your labor is not in vain.” (1 Corinthians 15:3-5, 54-58)
Resurrection Questions:
- Do you believe and embrace the resurrection of Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior?
- Have you experienced resurrection in your own journey of faith?
- Are you confident of the power of Jesus’ resurrection in resurrecting you in the future?
- Do you see the picture illustration of ‘water baptism’ showing the new life we have in Christ?
“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation.
The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.”
2 Corinthians 5:17
